Once A Year Subscription Holiday

The title "Once A Year Subscription Holiday" sounds familiar. You've heard its somewhere but don't recollect. View this 48 seconder and then we talk.

Now here's a random rant you may choose to skip but its indeed a serious concern in my view point. You may choose to disagree, perfectly fine with me. :) However, if taken in a positive way it may prevent a lot of heart ache and tears later.


THE RANT

These are just assumptions and wish I am wrong but you cannot rule out the possibility. You sure you aren't living in the era of Raja Harishchandra then you better read on. A humble request, use your discretion to make a judgement & take preventive steps accordingly. I am in no way trying to malign anyone's name or single out any particular service provider.

I shall not be responsible in anyway for what ever loss you may incur knowingly or unknowingly based on what you take away from here.


THE CONCERN

They say updating your status on social media with - 'Going on vacation' or hinting that you are out, miles away from home increases the chances of your house getting burgled. Am sure you may have read about it, may be even heard from known acquaintances about such incidents.

Well if that is true then what are the odds of Tata Sky's "Once-a-year Subscription Holiday Offer" also being an open invitation for the same. They even have your address. They know you aren't at home & also when you are expected back. The packages you've subscribed to say a lot about your lifestyle & habits and may help shortlist the targets and narrow down to you.

I am not saying they are or may indulge in such a thing. Knowing the reputation of TATA's am sure they would anticipated and already pondered on this angle or should I say a loop hole.

This is not an allegation but a concern as you do not know the person on the other side of the line taking your request for a temporary disconnection.

What if an agent has been monitoring your account after a tussle you may have had with him / her and complained about the agent. This would be an apt opportunity to pay you back. Its just a matter of passing on your information i.e. the address & the duration you will be away from home.

Its even more likely to happen and go unnoticed as those who come attend to attend onsite complains and installations are locals from the area to whom this service has been outsourced to.

If the employees integrity sitting at their end in the call centers in considered and foul play ruled out you still cannot turn a blind eye to the possibility of such records getting hacked and this specific info being leaked, specially during the vacation season.

The dilemma now is do you inform the service provider and risk it all or just go on a vacation and pay for what you wont be using.


MY SUGGESTION

I suggest you don't inform. If you are too stingy and wanna save some bucks, switch to the most cheapest basic plan for the duration you are away. Roll back once you are home again.

You got a better suggestion or a solution - lemme know and will update it here for all to benefit.
